Born on January 12, 1964, Jeffrey Preston Bezos is an American investor, media owner, and entrepreneur. Amazon is the largest e-commerce and cloud computing firm in the world. He is the founder, executive chairman, and former president and CEO of the company. According to Forbes and the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos had the highest net worth in the world from 2017 to 2021, and as of November 2023, he was valued at over US$170 billion. This places him as the third wealthiest person in the world.

Bezos, was born in Albuquerque and reared in Houston and Miami, earned degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from Princeton University in 1986. From 1986 to the beginning of 1994, he worked on Wall Street in a number of related industries. Midway through a road journey from New York City to Seattle in 1994, Bezos established Amazon. Since its founding as an online bookshop, the business has grown to provide a wide range of other e-commerce goods and services, such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and streaming audio and video. With its division of Amazon Web Services, it is the biggest online retailer in the world, the biggest Internet business in terms of revenue, and the biggest supplier of virtual assistants and cloud infrastructure services.


In 2000, Bezos established Blue Origin, an aircraft manufacturer and provider of suborbital spaceflight services. He launched into space on Blue Origin NS-16 in 2021, having previously made a successful return landing on Earth in 2015 with Blue Origin's New Shepard spacecraft. In addition, he paid $250 million for the prestigious American newspaper The Washington Post in 2013 and oversees several additional investments through his venture capital company, Bezos Expeditions. Bezos and Yuri Milner, the creator of Mail.ru, co-founded the biotechnology startup Altos Labs in September 2021.


After surpassing Bill Gates' record in 1999, Bezos became the first centibillionaire on the Forbes Real Time Billionaires Index and was dubbed the "richest man in modern history" after his net worth reached $150 billion in July 2018.As of August 2020, Forbes reported that his net worth surpassed $200 billion.During the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, his fortune increased by almost $24 billion.Bezos assumed the position of executive chairman on July 5, 2021, following his resignation as president and chief executive officer of Amazon. Bezos was succeeded as CEO and president of Amazon by Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon Web Services. Bezos was born on January 12, 1964, as Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ted and Jacklyn Jorgensen were his parents. Jeff's father was 19 years old and his mother was a 17-year-old high school student when he was born. Born in Chicago to a Baptist family, Jorgensen was a Danish American unicyclist. Jacklyn went to night school with her infant after finishing high school in spite of difficult circumstances. When Jeff was two years old, he went to an Albuquerque Montessori school.

After Mike had received his degree from the University of New Mexico, the family moved to Houston, Texas, so that he could begin working as an engineer for Exxon. Jeff attended River Oaks Elementary School in Houston from fourth to sixth grade. Jeff's maternal grandfather was Lawrence Preston Gise, a regional director of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) in Albuquerque. Lawrence retired early to his family's ranch near Cotulla, Texas, where Jeff would spend many summers in his youth. Jeff would later purchase this ranch and expand it from 25,000 acres (10,117 ha) to 300,000 acres (121,406 ha). Jeff displayed scientific interests and technological proficiency and once rigged an electric alarm to keep his younger siblings out of his room The family moved to Miami, Florida, where Jeff attended Miami Palmetto High School. While Jeff was in high school, he worked at McDonald's as a short-order line cook during the breakfast shift


Bezos participated in the University of Florida's Student Science Training Program. He won the 1982 Silver Knight Award, was named a National Merit Scholar, and was the valedictorian of his high school class. Bezos informed the crowd during his commencement speech that he saw a time when humans will inhabit space. His goal was described as "to get all people off the earth and see it turned into a huge national park" in a local newspaper.
