MID CAP INDEX MUTUAL FUND
What is Mid Cap Index Mutual Fund?
A midcap index comprises businesses ranked 101–250 on the stock market with market capitalizations ranging from Rs. 5,000 crore to Rs. 20,000 crore. Investment products such as midcap mutual funds employ midcap indexes as benchmarks. In order to provide the best results, these funds seek to replicate the midcap index's performance. The two most often used mid cap indexes in India are the NSE (Nifty) midcap and the BSE (Sensex) midcap index.
These funds do not try to outperform the index by actively selecting mid-cap stocks. Instead, they aim to replicate the performance of mid-cap indices like NIFTY Midcap 150 by holding the same stocks as the index in the same proportions.
Features of Mid Cap Index Fund:
Mid-cap companies have a market capitalisation of Rs.5,000 crore to 20,000 crore. The index tracks only these companies.
Midcap index lays a strong foundation for investors willing to invest in funds related to the index. The companies that are a part of midcap index have the potential to become large cap companies. This gives investors the opportunity to capture the growth potential of these companies.
Mid-cap indices typically represent a broad range of sectors. This facilitates exposure to multiple sectors and reduces the risk associated with investing in a single sector.

How Midcap Index Constructed?
In India, a midcap index is usually created by choosing a set of firms from either the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) or the National Stock Exchange (NSE). These businesses are rated from 101 to 250 according on market capitalization. Although the exact process for choosing the firms and allocating weights to them in the index may differ, it typically considers elements including market size, liquidity, and financial performance (turnover ratio). For inclusion in the index, companies must have a free float market capitalization between Rs. 2,000 crore and Rs. 9,000 crore.
